Toni Elias visits LCR Tech Division

New LCR Honda MotoGP Team racer Toni Elias won the Moto2 world title more than 6 week ago in Sepang (Malaysia) but it is still travelling to do promotions, celebrations, conferences and so on.

Toni Elias visits LCR Tech Division
But last week end the Spaniard has decided to take a break having fun at the 31st edition of Monza Rally in Milan. Elias, who has driven a rally car for the first time in his career, has challenged his two wheels competitors like Simoncelli and Iannone taking his Grande Punto Abarth to 28th in the Super2000 class and 70th overall. Before flying back to Spain the 27-year-old has visited his new Team Manager Lucio Cecchinello at the Team technical division to meet the whole staff and to breathe some LCR team history…
Toni Elias
“Lately I am travelling a lot for interviews, ceremonies etc… and I like that but I needed a break and the Monza Rally was the right opportunity. That was my first time on a rally car but I enjoyed a lot. I think I have found a new game to play! Then before going back home I have decided to visit Lucio and the Team at their tech division. I was impressed about the atmosphere and the history you can feel in that place: it is full of photos, awards, motorbikes in every corner and all of the staff (technicians, hospitality staff, administration and commercial personnel and graphic department guys) have been very friendly and warm with me”.

First factory Test a success

The American concluded the two days at Valencia with the third fastest time overall as he put his 2011 M1 through its initial paces.

First factory Test a success

Ben Spies wrapped up the second and final day of the Official MotoGP Test at Valencia early on Wednesday having gained plenty of positive feedback on his 2011 Yamaha M1. The American, Testing as a factory rider for the first time, put in 49 laps before 1pm and is already looking forward to further developing the bike in Malaysia in February.
“We’ve had another good day and another day of learning,” he said. “We messed with the bike a bit, changed some settings and went in a positive direction. So another good session working with the new crew again, I’m very happy with it.”
Spies added: “I read some comments from Jorge about the new engine for next year, he seemed to be happy with the way that was going so I look forward to seeing that in Malaysia. I’m looking forward to now having a couple of months of then getting back to it!”
Spies’ Crew Chief Tom Houseworth, who has made the switch from the Tech 3 team with the rider, commented: “We tested the prototype again this morning, we collected the data from yesterday and following a meeting last night made some setting changes for today which we tested with very positive results. Once we had achieved these we went ahead and tested the Bridgestone tyres, testing three options, one of which Ben really liked a lot.”
“The test has been very productive and very promising for the future on the new bike. Ben is really optimistic and looking forward to continuing at Sepang.”

Rossi Yamaha R1 to be auctioned

MotoGP’s official charity will benefit from a very special prize being auctioned in Los Angeles this Saturday (November 13th).
Rossi Yamaha R1 to be auctioned

World famous auction house Bonhams has announced the release of its catalogue for the upcoming “Classic California” auction on November 13th at the Petersen Museum in downtown Los Angeles. The auction will include a truly one-of-a-kind motorcycle offered in collaboration with the most successful motorcycle racer of his era, Valentino Rossi. All the money raised by the sale of this unique lot will support the work of Riders for Health.

The catalogue can be viewed online at Bonhams website. The highly upgraded and customized 2009 Yamaha YZF-R1 1000cc can be found in the catalogue as Lot 439.
The bike is the civilian version of the MotoGP machine ridden by nine-times World Champion, Rossi, who was on hand to personally sign the bike at the recent MotoGP at Laguna Seca.
Sporting Rossi’s personal “Five Continents” AGV helmet design, this amazing and very specialised motorcycle was the brainchild of Daytona 200 winner, former racing champion, and AMA Hall of Famer Don Emde. Emde founded the non-profit Friends of Riders for Health to further the cause in America of Riders for Health.
As a way to generate funds for Riders for Health, Emde conceived this project and then invited the “who’s who” of the motorcycling world to participate.
“Once we got Rossi’s blessing, everyone jumped aboard,” said Emde. “Yamaha Motor Corp. USA donated the brand new stock machine, Aldo Drudi translated the graphics from Rossi’s helmet to the R1’s special bodywork imported from Italy, Roland Sands donated Ronin wheels, Bridgestone added BT-003 tyres, Öhlins gave suspension, Akrapovic provided exhaust, EBC did brakes, and the list goes on – Vortex, Goodridge, Dynojet, etc. Just with improvements the bike’s value is nearly $30,000, and that’s without the significance of the project and Rossi’s involvement.”
This incredible team effort R1, personally autographed by Rossi, will be presented in “track day” trim but it is fully street legal and will be offered with all the necessary accessories and California title. On top of that, Yamaha will donate a day at the Yamaha Champions Riding School for the winning bidder.

The stuff that matters, including the race-winning frame and swingarm, sophisticated Ride-by-Wire integrated electronic throttle-management system and the compact, 180-horsepower V4 engine, remains intact. The 999cc, 65-degree V4 engine is identical to that of the Factory version, with dual fuel injectors, 13:1 compression and three-way selectable engine mapping, with power profiles optimized for street, sport and track use. The frameset is constructed from a combination of cast and pressed pieces to maximize rigidity and reduce weight, while the suspension is fully adjustable, with a 43mm Showa inverted fork and Sachs piggyback shock. Other cost-saving measures include cast-aluminum wheels and conventional plastic bodywork. Look at the image of 2010 Aprilia RSV4R.

The motorcycle was introduced in the latter half of the 19th century. Since then this has been the most common and popular means of transport. An electric motorcycle is a two-wheeled vehicle powered by battery and is the latest innovation in the motorcycle industry.

Basically, electric motorcycles can be classified into two; power-on-demand motorcycles and power-assist motorcycles. Earlier, electric motorcycles were used only for races. With the introduction of electric motorcycles for general use, they have become one of the most popular and trendy means of transport among the local masses. Unlike the ordinary motorcycles, the electric motorcycles are powered by batteries. Thus, electric motorcycles are the best solution for air pollution and making the earth a better place to live in.

On an average, the lifespan of the battery is approximately 300 charges or 15000 km, and it may last for one to two years. The blade of the electric motorcycles delivers horsepower which is equivalent to a 250 four-stroke motor. Apart from high performance, the blade does not produce any noise or pollution. The control of the blade can be programmed to suit the ride. When compared with other motorcycles, the electric motorcycles are lightweight.

To meet the varying demands, the electric motorcycle comes in a wide range of colors, models and brands. EMB Inc., Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki are some of the leading companies dealing in electric motorcycles. Most popular models in electric motorcycles are TDM07Z, SW-0004, and SW-0004.

Depending on the availability, all the different models of electric motorcycles can be purchased from various sources, the favorite being the online stores. Internet is packed with numerous online sites which provide a wide range of options in electric motorcycles. Another major source from where you can purchase electric motorcycles is authorized dealers.

Electric motorcycles are available in different price levels to meet the varying needs. When compared with petrol or gas motorcycles, the electric motorcycles are quite expensive. A brand new electric motorcycle with 48-Volt SLA Battery pack will cost around $6,800 and a longer range electric motorcycle will cost more. In spite of the high cost, it is considered as the most viable option for a pollution free and joyful ride.
